All Students: Who was the best teacher you've ever had and why?

A teacher can be almost anyone. Throughout my life my mom and dad have taught me all kinds of things, even when they didn't know it. I learned how to react to situations, socialize with people, and judge the character of people from them. Even my kids teach me new things. They teach me how to be kind, patient, and to take smaller steps when their legs get tired. I am picking this question for our first blog because it is a great way to get to know you. I have had three teachers that are going to be mentioned here - but I have had seven teachers that I would consider great in my life.

The first was Mr. Mobley at O'Hara High School - he flunked me. Well, I flunked me - but you get the picture. I loved his class - I just didn't want to turn in the homework. I thought it was stupid. So I failed the class. When I went to do my student teaching I was assigned to (you guessed it) Mr. Mobley. I was scared to death. I knew he would remember me and flunk me again, but this time I wanted to be a teacher. From the first day he was great - he taught me so much about teaching. At the end, I earned an "A" and I felt really good about it.

The second was John Jedlicka, who taught advanced biology. I learned more from this crazy guy than any other teacher. His class was very challenging, but you couldn't help but be interested because he was literally crazy!!!! He would stand in the halls and serenade all of the students who were PDAing. Anyway, I still remember a lot of his lessons in science and I tested out of biology in college because of him.

The third and probably the greatest was Sr. Martha Smith. She was my world history professor at Avila College. She demanded the best from students - if you did great work - you got a B. You actually had to go above and beyond her expectations to get an A. The only A I ever thought I deserved was in her class. While I was in her class she pushed me to be a teacher. She kept on me for three years until I was a teacher. I have never regretted her decision.

So what stories do you have about the best teacher you know?

The best teacher that I've ever had, hands down, was my gifted communication arts teacher, Mrs. Slaughter. I had her first in the sixth grade and she immediately welcomed me to the middle school. I really enjoyed her because she challenged me more so than I had ever been challenged before and pushed me to improve my reading, vocabulary, and writing. I had her for the next four years of school and I would not be the same student today if I had not had her as a teacher. She worked extremely hard and genuinely cared for each of her students.

My favorite teacher was Mr. Lee, my seventh grade social studies teacher. There was never a dull moment in his class, but he still made us work hard. Also, he taught us good study habits and how to take good notes and make quality projects. But my favorite thing about his class was that whenever he got off topic, it would lead to some sort of life lesson. He talked about everything from staying young while we can to how to flatulate when you are on a date.

The best teacher I have ever had was Ms. Strada in 8th grade Comm Arts. I never have been the most confident student, but in Ms. Strada's class, everyone felt confortable. We had our laughs and we had serious moments, but the class always got the lesson done. Ms. Strada had confidence in me which gave me confidence in myself, which inturn allowed me to help others in the class succeed.

My best teacher I have ever had was my fifth grade teacher. I think she was my best one because she taught lessons outside of school. She taught us that not to take advantage of a situation. She was also one of my favorites because she understood where everyone was in the class and she didn't move on to a different subject until everyone was on the same page. She also made the class fun. She frequently made games to help kids understand the lesson. Overall, she made learning fun and she really made a big difference in my life.

When I think about past teachers that have made learning a really great experience, one sticks out. Mrs. Noble who taught me 8th Grade math was amazing. She was about 70-some years old, and it was her last year teaching, but she was the coolest teacher I've had yet. She had a very laidback style of teaching and I think our whole math class (a whopping 12 of us) would all say we viewed her as a friend.

One of my favorite teachers is the quirky and lovable Ms.Thompson. In eighth grade I had Ms.Thompson for German and at first I was a bit resentful. However, as the year went on I greatly looked forward to my seventh hour German class. You never knew what to expect in this class and every day Ms.Thompson would teach us something in a jovial manner. My favorite part about her was probably that she related to the students so wl, she treated us all so fairly. Walking into that class was like going into a family reunion. I learned so much from Ms.Thompson and so looked forward to having her for German for the many high school years to come. To my dismay, she had chosen to retire that year. I remember the day she announced it, that day I cried and cried. I still miss my German teacher so much and know that my knowledge of the foreign language would be that much greater if I had her still.

The best teacher that I have ever had was my soccer coach from 3rd grade until 8th grade. His name is Coach Larry. Coach Larry taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and respect. He said that hard work was the only way to improve and that you must be dedicated to the sport, working hard during matches, practice, and outside of practice. He also taught us that by respecting our opponents, we would not only play better but also respect ourselves more.

One of the best teacher I've ever had was Mr. Lee. He was a good teacher because he made us work hard to prepare ourselves for junior high. He talked really fast and it was almost impossible to write down all the notes. He taught me that I had to study to pass the tests because he tested us over everything. He also rarely gave 100% on any projects or papers so I learned to put a lot of effort into my work. Mr. Lee also lectured about life lessons. Overall I learned a lot of good lessons in his class although at the time I didn't enjoy his class.

The best teacher I have ever had would be life itself. Throughout your life you can be taught many things. You learn from the people around you. You also learn from you past experiances. One of the best "teacher" teachers I've ever had would be Mr. McCoy. He was my 5th grade teacher from Manor Hill Elementary. Out of the three fifth grade teachers he was the most unfavored one for most students. Although he was strict in all aspects he was able to prepare all of us for what was to come in middle school. To lessen the "stress" he made educational games that we would play at least one time each day. Mr. McCoy was a great teach.

My best teacher I've ever had is Mrs. Kelley, my Comm. Arts and Debate teacher from last year. Mrs. Kelley had a way of teaching that was sort of unusual. Her method was to let kids do their own things and have students question one another. I really enjoyed this Socratic method of teaching. Another reason I consider Mrs. Kelley to be my best teacher is that she was like my twin from the future. She and I both had the same taste in music, food, and books. Some students even said we were even morphing into one another with each day of school... I will not confirm or deny these allegations. All in all, Mrs. Kelley was just a fun and unique teacher.

The best teacher I have ever had was my 9th grade math teacher, Mr. Nessa. In years past, I strongly disliked math because I thought I was bad at it. It was with Mr. Nessa that I realized that it was not because I was bad, but that it was because the teachers never took the time to really help me understand the problems. As soon as I came into 9th grade Algebra I, my view on math really took a U-turn. I began advancing quickly in my class and gained much confidence in my math skills. He did not just mark a problem on my homework wrong and hand it back. He took the time to look through the problem and show me my exact mistake. When my mom e-mailed him to tell him my dad was being deployed overseas with the Army, he told me that if we ever needed any help, to just ask and he would. He was the only teacher who told me that last year. Now, I am continuing to improve in math. I was able to move up to a more advanced math class this year. Something I NEVER would have believed possible 2 years ago. Mr. Nessa made a huge impact in my life.

One of my favorite teachers was my sixth grade social studies teacher, Mr. Van Hauen because, even though I didn't like it at the time, he made us read a section of the textbook and take double column notes on a piece of notebook paper. We needed to come up with a question and two points for every paragraph all on our own and this really helped develop my note taking skills and my ability to identify main points in a reading. He also didn't allow you to slide by with answers like, "An effect of the war was that people died." He would say, "Duh. It's a war. People are going to die. Any idiot could figure that out." But Mr. Van Hauen didn't just push us to work hard, he was also entertaining and his class was very enjoyable.

She understood that and she didnt mock us or anything like that. She also made lessons fun. She played games too. Overall, she was the best teacher because she made learning fun.

Mr.Harding made me love history, he used methods that made the class fun, but he would not tollerate incompetence. He taught me that learning about history can be enjoyable.

The next teacher that affected my life will remain anonymous because she was probably my least favorite teacher. However she helped my life because she taught me to be a smarter student and to stand up for myself when someone says i'm doing something wrong.

These two teachers have had the biggest impact on my life so far.

She also on test let us retake three times just so we could get a good grade. My all time favorite teacher would have to be my seventh grade Social Studies teacher, Mr. Lee. (SVJH) Mr. Lee was an incredibly smart man and I was honored that he shared his wisdom with me, in and outside of the classroom. He yould give us lectures everyday and we would take notes on what we thought was important. By the end of the hour all our hands were cramping, but it was worth it to get the information. I remember talking to my friends from the other Social Studies class about what I learned and they always were like "What?! We never learned that!" It was a good feeling to be ahead. When we had our unit tests you had to be sure you knew everything and I mean everything! Whoever got the highest score of the hour got a "cup award" which was a little cup of goodies. When I was won I was so proud to flaunt that cup. I also like how Mr. Lee would tell us about his past experiences and how to learn from our mistakes. I had my two best friends and we would always get off track. Mr. Lee would laugh along with us sometimes, then tell us to focus on our work. Plus Mr. Lee was an assistant coach for the Denver Broncos! How cool is that?! :]

Little would I know that old woman that stood before me would astoundingly change my view on literature, poems, and even life itself. She had an inconceivable way to make us actually want to come to her class. Which, in my opinion, deserves an award, and she got one. The best teacher I have ever had would have to be my 7th grade social studies teacher, Mrs.Boswell. Her teaching style was just so much fun. We did this activity towards the end of the year over Greece. Mrs.Boswell divided us up into the different places in Greece like Athens,Sparta, and two other. I ended up being in Athens but I was the spy from Sparta,so it was fun because I got to make Athens lose points by not bringing homework and accusing the wrong people. Also the winning team got to have a Greek lunch. The winning team was Sparta so I got to eat the lunch. Mrs.Boswell was also a very relatable person. She had many stoies that had life lessons included. During that time we found out my dad had the brain tumor and she made me feel like everything was okay and she didn't always ask me about it and she didn't feel sorry for me and I like that about her. Mrs. Boswell was my favorite teacher because she wasn't just a good teacher but she was a good person to.

The best teacher I have ever had is a toss up. It is between my 9th Grade Geometry teacher Mrs. Samson and my 3rd Grade teacher Mrs. Smith. I don't think i have enjoyed math as much as I did last year as a freshman. Surprisingly i enjoyed going to my locker getting my geometry book and waiting to see what was in store today in her class. Resulting from this, I learned tons of information from here including life skills and geometry. Mrs. Smith is also my favorite teacher because she really enjoyed my company and she taught me tons of stuff in cool and interesting ways.

The best teacher I ever had was without a doubt Mr. Friendly. He work at the American school of Paris and was my teacher for world history. I also did an independent study with him so I could get credit for American History as well. He had an interesting style of teaching which included taping a student to a desk and having projects like dance the industrial revolution. I remember for one project I turned in a lamp. No other teacher would consider a lamp A+ work. His lessons were all about thinking for yourself. He would tell us lies hoping almost begging that the next day we would be able to contradict them in a educated and well backed up manner. These debates could go on for days before he would tell the class that he lied. He expected the best out of you. For example a paper that to other teachers would have gotten an A got a B or C because it did not as he said it "rock the bells". So projects which were given daily ending up being sculptures and hours worth of research. He expected us to spend at least two hours on his homework to get a B. He taught me to think for myself and formulate my own opinions based off the information from all sides of the argument. He taught me to do the best work possible not just the average. His class changed my life.

The best teacher I have ever had is definatly my fourth grade teacher Mr. Nash. He is my favorite of all the teachers I have had because his class was never just learning. His class was so interactive that everyday was an adventure. The thing that I will never forget though is that every year his class went to the state fair with guina pigs that we raised. We would dress them up in costumes or something and they would be judged and then awarded a ribbon if they were good enough. Well my guinea pig ended up winning a first prize ribbon. Mr. nash would also tell the best stories and leave you with the idea that anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. He was my favorite teacher and has impacted my life in a way that I will always be different.

My favorite teaceher by far would have to be Ms. Hall, my freshman communication arts teacher. She not only taught me more than any other teacher, but put her teaching into words I will never forget. Ms. Hall taught more about life than actually writing, which isn't a bad thing at all. She taught me to make myself happy before I try to help others. I was always worried about others problems and took them as my own; She taught me that it was the wrong thing to do and helped me through the worldwin of freshman year. She is definitely a teacher I will never forget.

The best teacher I ever had was my kindergarden teacher Mrs. Gardner. Like all kids going to school for the first time I was terrified. Mrs. Gardner showed me how fun school really was and I went from being shy and quiet, to outgoing and confident because of her. It was also because of Mrs. Gardner that I learned to love reading, which is something I still love to this day.
