All Students: Who was the best teacher you've ever had and why?
A teacher can be almost anyone. Throughout my life my mom and dad have taught me all kinds of things, even when they didn't know it. I learned how to react to situations, socialize with people, and judge the character of people from them. Even my kids teach me new things. They teach me how to be kind, patient, and to take smaller steps when their legs get tired. I am picking this question for our first blog because it is a great way to get to know you. I have had three teachers that are going to be mentioned here - but I have had seven teachers that I would consider great in my life.
The first was Mr. Mobley at O'Hara High School - he flunked me. Well, I flunked me - but you get the picture. I loved his class - I just didn't want to turn in the homework. I thought it was stupid. So I failed the class. When I went to do my student teaching I was assigned to (you guessed it) Mr. Mobley. I was scared to death. I knew he would remember me and flunk me again, but this time I wanted to be a teacher. From the first day he was great - he taught me so much about teaching. At the end, I earned an "A" and I felt really good about it.
The second was John Jedlicka, who taught advanced biology. I learned more from this crazy guy than any other teacher. His class was very challenging, but you couldn't help but be interested because he was literally crazy!!!! He would stand in the halls and serenade all of the students who were PDAing. Anyway, I still remember a lot of his lessons in science and I tested out of biology in college because of him.
The third and probably the greatest was Sr. Martha Smith. She was my world history professor at Avila College. She demanded the best from students - if you did great work - you got a B. You actually had to go above and beyond her expectations to get an A. The only A I ever thought I deserved was in her class. While I was in her class she pushed me to be a teacher. She kept on me for three years until I was a teacher. I have never regretted her decision.
So what stories do you have about the best teacher you know?
