Modern World History Classes: Slavery?
Do you think that slavery was inevitable in the America's. With more and more settlement in the New World, could the Europeans have gone without slavery and still made money? What gave the Europeans the ability to enslave others like the Native Americans and the Africans? How would history have been different if slavery had never existed in the Americas?

I think slavery was inevitable, because to plantation owners in the new colonies in america, buying slaves would be much easier than getting out there and doing it themselves, and it was so easy for europeans to enslave so many people from africa, because they were advanced, and had weapons, and the africans didnt.
I think that slavery was inevitable in America. Although i do believe that somehow or another the europeans could have made money without slavery. Europeans in the beginning had alot of power and contorll over the native americans and the african americans because they had money and sort of like advanced technology that they had never seen before.The europeans had better weapons and they also had different types of foods and utinsils. They Natives and Blacks were very Curious and wanted all these new things. It can kinda be compared to a racoon and shiny objects....they can resist them! African and Native tribes would go to war with one another and then sell there capitives to the Americans as slaves. I Believe that slavery is wrong but i also cant see any other way that America could have gotten to be as big or as Powerfull without it.
yes i think that slavery could have been prevented. the colonists could have still made money and everything, but could have payed the slaves which would have been the right thing to do. or gave them food and shelter in return for work on the farm...and not beating the slaves.
slavery could have been avoided by not taking the easy was out. i believe the reason people wanted slaves was to have someone to do all of your work and not have to pay them anything. so if they would have stopped to think for a second about what the right thing to do is and stop being lazy they slavery could have been completely avoided.
Europeans had better technology. I think this was a major reason why they were able to enslave so many people. Also, they had money. They could actually buy people from their leaders. Africans helped capture other Africans to sell them into slavery.
The Europeans used slavery to make up for the lack of numbers that nations like had China used advantageously, but the Europeans were dominant before their American colonies and would have still been dominant afterwords without slavery. There may have been many more countries with higher status today had that much slavery not occurred. The Europeans could successfully take advantage of the lesser nations because they figured out how to exploit the rivalries between tribes on the coasts of Africa, and the had the means/motives to indulge in such a huge operation.
Slavery most definatly inevitable. Europeans could have still made money no matter what settlement was going on, they were perfectly capealbe to work they didnt need some other people to do it for them. The Europeans were able to enslave people like the Native Americans and Africans because they had all these advancements and weapons and stuff that gave them power the the Indians and Africans. Our history would have been so much different if their wasnt slavery like their would have been no civil war, civil rights problems, and all the controversy that even happens today.
